in the great freenode exodus of 2021, all the open-source projects and general nerd hangout channels will flock to...

@zpojqwfejwfhiunz Why isn't "IRC" on that list? There's libera, there's oftc.

@alrs because this websight only allows 4 options and that was the 6th thing I thought of

/connect, you'll see that the channels are already filling back up. IRC people are not going to move to Discord, ever. That's chat for non-technical people under 20.

@alrs @zpojqwfejwfhiunz
*one IRC network splits in half thanks to some drama*
"welp, IRC is dead I guess"

@slowfallinward @alrs if Undernet/DALnet taught me anything, it's to pick a side and ride the split because communities can and will evaporate rapidly, even if they feel so solid today

@zpojqwfejwfhiunz @alrs I'm not sure what you're saying with this, though I'm definitely not sticking around freenode for anything but the channels that don't move or actively using their services except where I must. Anyway I'm not sure freenode itself even was "a community", I don't think the little channel I was in for group buying tea had anything to do with FreeBSD, or that again with OpenFPGA, etc.
